Greetings

Welcome to the First Virginia Regiment.
We pride ourselves on our level of authenticity and continue to research the uniforms, tactics and other aspects of the period. We endeavor to keep our Regiment as the most authentic reenactment units active today. Therefore, we have strict authenticity guidelines that we expect all members to follow. Please note: if you come to an event with an item that is not correct we will probably ask you to remove the offending item.
The First Virginia provides all the gun powder and food for events at no cost to the member. The unit also provides all the tentage and camp equipment and we have a van that carries all our gear.
The authenticity of our uniforms requires specific material – color, weight, and type of fabric. Although you may be able to find material and complete items at a cheaper price, the fabric, materials, or pattern may not match those of the period. Care must be taken in ensuring that we look like an accurate 18th Century American Soldier.
You’ll want to acquire or make your clothing and gear as quickly as possible so you can begin to participate. One of the first decisions you’ll want to make is whether you, or a family member, want to try to make your clothing and gear, or if you want to purchase most of what you need. The Regiment has a “loaner locker” of uniform and equipment for members to borrow until they complete their own kit. So, you don’t have to go out and buy all of your items right away; which can be an overwhelmingly expensive prospect. Our Quartermaster buys period-correct uniform fabric in bulk and sells it to our members at a wholesale cost. To ensure that the uniforms and other items you have are authentic, you should buy your material and kits from the Quartermaster. We have patterns and kits for most items, including cartridge boxes and other gear. If you choose to buy from other than our own Quartermaster, we ask that you use the links provided on each page to ensure that you are not buying items that at the next event are deemed not period correct “farb” and you end up replacing.
We are attempting to make it easier to purchase from the Quartermaster or give you links to sutlers in which you can buy correct items. Use the links below to go to each uniform item. Please contact the webmaster QM1stVA@aol.com if you have any suggestions to make these pages better and easier to use.
It’s great to have you with us.

Huzzah!
